The Autumn Color Forecast: Soft Fall Colors for Baby + Toddler
Fall doesn't have to mean traditional orange, burgundy, and pumpkin.
At PAIGELAUREN, we're looking at the season differently.
Our Autumn Color Forecast is quieter, softer, and inspired by the colors little ones can actually live in—warm earth tones, softened color, cool neutrals, and the beautifully imperfect shades created through garment dyeing.
This season's forecast:
Mushroom. Cocoa. Plum. Moss. Storm. Heather.
Six colors. Different textures. One unmistakably soft PAIGELAUREN point of view.
Soft tones for cooler days.
A Softer Approach to Fall Color
Children's fall wardrobes don't need to feel heavy just because the temperature begins to drop.
Instead of relying on conventional autumn colors, we built our palette around muted, wearable shades that transition naturally from late summer into fall and beyond.
The colors are intentionally easy.
Mushroom replaces stark beige.
Cocoa brings warmth without feeling overly seasonal.
Plum offers color without becoming too sweet.
Moss brings nature into the palette.
Storm introduces a softened blue.
And Heather remains the neutral we return to again and again.
Together, they create a modern fall wardrobe for babies, toddlers, and kids that feels distinctly California.
Mushroom — Warm + Timeless
Mushroom sits somewhere between natural, stone, and warm taupe.
It's the kind of neutral that becomes more interesting when texture is introduced. On fleece, it feels cozy and substantial. On rib, it becomes lighter and more refined. On thermal, the knit itself gives the color dimension.
Mushroom also makes an ideal foundation for a gender-neutral baby or toddler wardrobe.
Pair it with Cocoa for a tonal look, Moss for something earthy, or Storm for a cooler contrast.
Cocoa — Rich + Grounded
Chocolate and brown continue to feel important, but our approach is softer and more lived-in.
Cocoa brings richness to the PAIGELAUREN fall palette without becoming overly dark.
We especially love brown on textured fabrics and through garment-dyed and marble-dyed finishes, where subtle highs and lows prevent the color from looking perfectly uniform.
It's warm, grounded, and incredibly easy to wear.
For fall, Cocoa is our alternative to black.
Plum — Soft + Modern
Plum brings the emotion to the palette.
Rather than a bright purple, PAIGELAUREN Plum is muted and slightly dusty—a color that feels almost neutral when paired with Mushroom, Cocoa, or Heather.
The shade becomes especially beautiful when applied to textured thermal, ribbed fabrics, or garment-dyed pieces because the surface of the fabric allows the color to shift naturally.
It's a little unexpected.
And that's exactly why we love it.
Moss — Natural + Fresh
Fall green doesn't have to be forest green.
Our Moss is softer and more relaxed—an earthy green inspired by nature but designed to function almost like a neutral.
It works beautifully across baby and toddler loungewear because it has enough color to feel special while remaining incredibly easy to mix.
Pair Moss with Mushroom for a soft natural palette or Plum for one of our favorite combinations of the season.
Storm — Cool + Versatile
Storm brings a cooler note into an otherwise earthy palette.
Sitting somewhere between faded blue and blue-gray, it gives fall dressing a little breathing room.
It's also unmistakably California.
Think cloudy mornings along the coast, faded denim, Pacific skies, and that slightly washed quality that develops when color has been softened by time.
Storm works especially well in garment-dyed fleece, ribbed fabrics, and everyday baby and toddler sets.
Heather — The Everyday Favorite
Some colors don't need reinventing.
Heather gray has been part of the PAIGELAUREN vocabulary for years because it works almost everywhere.
It lets texture become the focus.
On our heathered fleece, the subtle variation within the yarn gives the fabric depth. Pair it with a graphic and it feels sporty. Keep it clean and it becomes a modern everyday essential.
Heather is the piece you reach for when you don't want to think about what goes with what.
Everything does.
Fall Is About Texture, Too
Our Autumn Color Forecast isn't really just a color story.
It's a fabric story.
The same shade can look completely different depending on what it's made from and how it's finished.
Plush fleece makes color feel deeper and cozier.
Thermal creates dimension through its textured surface.
Rib brings softness and movement.
Heathered fabrics create natural variation.
Garment dye gives color a washed, lived-in quality.
And our hand-dyed techniques allow color to move through a garment in ways that can't be perfectly repeated.
That's why PAIGELAUREN fall clothing isn't designed around color alone.
We design around how color and fabric feel together.
What Should Babies and Toddlers Wear in Fall?
The easiest fall wardrobe is built around layers.
Temperatures can change dramatically throughout the day, especially in California. A cool morning can quickly become a warm afternoon before temperatures drop again in the evening.
Instead of one heavy layer, we prefer pieces that can work together:
A breathable rib or thermal base.
An easy sweatshirt or hoodie.
A relaxed pant.
And a soft fleece layer when more warmth is needed.
The result is a wardrobe that can adjust as the day changes—and clothing that gets worn far beyond a single season.
The Soft Season
For PAIGELAUREN, autumn isn't about dressing children like miniature adults.
It's about giving them clothes they can actually be children in.
Clothes for sitting on the floor.
Running outside.
Curling up on the couch.
Going to preschool.
Traveling.
Playing.
And doing all of it again tomorrow.
Our relaxed silhouettes, soft fabrics, and seasonal colors are designed around those everyday moments.
We call it The Soft Season.
New tones for little lives.
